Koç University – TÜSİAD Economic Research Forum (EAF) and Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) jointly organized a conference titled “Mirrless Report: Tax Reform for a Modern Economy” on May 4th, 2012.
Opening speeches of the Conference were delivered by Mr. Volkan Vural, Member of the Board of Directors of TÜSİAD and Prof. Umran İnan, President of Koç University.
In his speech Mr. Volkan Vural reminded that TÜSİAD proposed many measures to register the unregistered economy and to reduce the tax burden of the laboring class. He also underlined that a sustainable growth requires encouraging tax policies.
The conference discussed the Mirrless Report of the IFS, on the characteristics of a tax system suitable for a modern economy and the implications of the report on the design of tax policies in Turkey and other developing countries.
The report titled “The Mirrless Review: Tax by Design and Lessons for Turkey” was introduced to the public with a presentation by Mr. Paul Johnson, Director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS).
