TÜSİAD organized a seminar with the title of “Mergers and Acquisitions in Turkey: How to Cooperate for Improving Competitiveness” on May 8th, 2012, at Yapı Kredi Plaza, in Istanbul. The purpose of the seminar was to evaluate company behavior and investment environment in Turkey within the context of mergers and acquisitions.
The opening addresses of the seminar to discuss Turkish investment environment from the view point of both local and foreign investors were delivered by Ms. Ümit Boyner President of the Board of Directors of TÜSİAD, and Dr. Mustafa İbrahim Turhan, Chairman and CEO of IMKB.
In her opening address, Ms. Ümit Boyner observed that even during the global financial crisis Turkish companies continued their cross-border mergers and acquisitions activities and stated that “Between 2007 and 2011 the mergers and acquisitions activities of the Turkish companies amounted to 68 transactions for a total worth of 7.5 billion dollars. To diversify their market and products, to buy brand names and to improve competitiveness through cost reduction were the main motive behind these mergers and acquisitions activities.”
In the first session of the seminar titled “Cooperation for Strategic Growth”, distinguished managers from public and private sectors shared their mergers and acquisitions experiences.
During the second session of the seminar titled “Investment Environment in Turkey, Mergers and Acquisitions: Creating Permanent Value and Future Scenarios”, Turkish and foreign specialists evaluated the course of mergers and acquisitions activities in various future scenarios.
