TÜSİAD presented the report entitled "Foreign Trade Logistics in Turkey: Cost and Competition Elements" in a seminar, on March 14, 2012 at The Marmara Taksim Hotel, in Istanbul.
The report was part of the efforts of TÜSİAD to develop Turkish foreign trade and it was prepared by PricewaterhouseCoopers with the coordination of TÜSİAD Foreign Trade and Customs Union Working Group. The report investigates all the cost elements and time span of various operations in the whole process starting with the exit of the import or export goods from the production units to their arrival to the receivers’ quarters. The report includes also a comparative study in this respect between Turkey and its competitors.
Ms. Ümit Boyner, President of the Board of Directors of TÜSİAD and Mr. Asım Barlın, President of the Foreign Trade and Customs Union Working Group TÜSİAD, made the opening speeches of the seminar presenting the report.
In her speech Ms. Ümit Boyner noted that growth rates reaching the level of 8% are not unrealistic and she stated that “the Turkish economy has many important and privileged characteristics, it is our task to focus on this target growth rate and make the Turkish economy a kind of fast train.” Ms. Boyner reminded that TÜSİAD emphasized time and again, the need structural reforms to make Turkish production more competitive and efficiency-based; and she added that in addition the these reforms, it is also crucial to simplify trade procedures and to develop the customs regulations and the infrastructure of customs. Ms. Boyner indicated particularly that in the post-crisis period global competition will be much harder than before, and she stated that “the importance of simplifying trade procedures and having a logistics infrastructure capable of meeting the requirements of increasing volumes of export is becoming evident more than ever. Ms. Boyner concluded by underlining the importance of logistics infrastructure in the competition with the EU countries and others.
The report entitled "Foreign Trade Logistics in Turkey: Cost and Competition Elements" was presented by Mr. Cenk Ulu, Managing Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers and Mr. Cem Aracı, Assistant Manager of Indirect Tax Services of PricewaterhouseCoopers. Mr. Veysi Kurt, Assistant General Manager of TCDD, Mr. Soner Akkurt, Assistant General Manager of Turkish Airlines, Ms. Jale Arslan, Head of Trade Facilitation Department of the Ministry of Customs and Trade, Directorate General of Risk Management and Control, shared their comments and evaluations in the panel discussion following the presentation of the report.
