Reform in the Turkish Retirement System – The Current Situation and Alternative Strategies

The first section of the study titled, “Reform in the Turkish Retirement System – The Current Situation and Alternative Strategies” deals with the current situation of the Turkish social security system, the second section with the social security reform in the OECD countries, the third section with the long term actuarial balances of the old age insurance in Turkey and in the fourth section, a general balance model has been formed for Turkey. It is believed that there will be serious improvements in the macroeconomic balances of our country as a result of the system defended in this paper. The increasing domestic savings will amplify investment and level of income. The long term savings accumulating in individual accounts will open the way for the development and deepening of the capital markets, the finance necessary for public and private sector enterprises will be possible by long term funds and equities and thus capital will spread to the base.
