Institut du Bosphore Scientific Committee Meeting was held , on March 21st, 2013 in Paris with the participation of its co-presidents, Mr. Kemal Derviş and Mr. Henri de Castries
New Prospects for the relations between France and Turkey
Institut du Bosphore Scientific Committee held a meeting with the participation of its co-presidents Mr. Kemal Derviş and Mr. Henri de Castries, on Thursday, March 21st, 2013 in Paris. The meeting at the Purple Salon of the French Senate was opened by the address of Mr. Alain Juppé, former Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of France and member of Institut du Bosphore Scientific Committee.
More than thirty French and Turkish members of the Scientific Committee, including Mr. Michel Rocard former Prime Minister of France, Mr. Thierry Mariani, former Secretary of State for Transport and several parliamentarians, business leaders, academicians and members of media participated to the meeting to assess the relations between Turkey and France after the election of Mr. François Hollande as the new French President, and to evaluate the current situation of the EU membership process of Turkey. Members of the Scientific Committee emphasized that the Institut du Bosphore should consider the current international affairs as well as bilateral relations of Turkey and France in the coming period. After the meeting a luncheon was organized at the Napoleon Salon of the French Senate where many members of the French Senate and Parliament, and Turkish Ambassador to Paris Tahsin Burcuoğlu were present.
In the coming period, Institut du Bosphore will give priority on the issues of the future of the EU after the Euro crisis, probable scenarios for the candidate members such as Turkey, Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) as a new era of the EU – USA relations, energy policies and new technologies and moreover, the Institute will organize round table meetings, seminars and a series of publications under the theme of “The Future of Europe”.
Mr. Bahadır Kaleağası, President of Institut du Bosphore assessed the following period as follows:
“Maintaining good relations between France and Turkey will bear a very important effect on the societies in this period of crisis in Europe and increasing global economic competition. The researches and analyses made by Institut du Bosphore on the current international issues in Europe and the world confirm that the development of sound relations between Turkey and France is essential. Therefore we will continue to work for more creative and effective cooperation of Turkey and France, and for a strong presence of Turkey in the future of Europe.”
