  • New Issue of TÜSİAD Görüş Magazine reconsiders "European Union and Turkey"

    The new issue of the TÜSİAD GÖRÜŞ magazine discussing EU and Turkey has been published. The cover slogan of the magazine was “European Union and Turkey: At the threshold of a New Era”, and it included articles on the various aspects of the subject.

    The magazine includes an article by Mr. Egemen BAĞIŞ, Minister of EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator with the EU titled “The Changing Paradigm of the EU and the Commitment of Turkey” Mr. BAĞIŞ expressed that in spite of the distance covered by Turkey, the old prejudices about Turkey still persist. Mr. BAĞIŞ underlined for Turkey cannot make any concession on the development, democracy, law and liberties, and it is impossible for Turkey to depart from this path.

    Ms. Ria OOMEN-RUJITEN, the European Parliament's Rapporteur on Turkey contributed to the magazine with an article titled “Both Parties Should Make Effort”. The article evaluates EU-Turkey relation in the year of 2012 and remarks that during this year the dialogue between the parties was developed, a common understanding was attained and a positive outlook was created.

    Prof. Fuat KEYMAN, the Director of the Istanbul Policy Center proposed a new model for the Turkish membership to the EU. Assoc. Prof .Cengiz AKTAR addressed the issue of constructive contribution to the EU project. Dr. Bahadır KALEAĞASI assessed the target of EU membership with his article titled “The Future of EU: Alternatives for Turkey”

    Mr. Muharrem Yılmaz, President of the Board of Directors of TÜSİAD contributed to the cover theme with his article “On the Brink of a New Era”. The article of Mr. Yılmaz evaluated the new stage of Turkey-EU relations from the perspective of the business community. Reminding the establishment of a TÜSİAD commission to address specifically EU issues, Mr. Yılmaz also remarked that the choice of EU as the cover theme of the first issue of the Görüş Magazine is intentional.

    Mr. YILMAZ emphasized the importance of this issue as follows.

    “The target of EU membership will persist to be a priority of the Turkish business community. The EU membership process, the strengthening of the market rules and institutions, boosting up our global competitive power are the basic reference points of our outlook."

    GÖRÜŞ Magazine included also a special section on urban transformation. The articles in this section concentrated on the housing policies of the government, resource creation and distribution policies.
