Ms. Ümit Boyner, President of the Board of Directors of TÜSİAD participated with a speech to the 35th Enterprise and Business Council meeting organized by Turkish Enterprise and Business Confederation (TÜRKONFED), on June 8th, 2012, in Bursa.
Keynote speeches of the meeting were delivered by Ms. Oya Coşkunöz Yöney, President of the Board of Directors of Bursa SİAD, Ms. Ümit Boyner, President of the Board of Directors of TÜSİAD, Mr. Erdem Çenesiz, President of the Board of Directors of TÜRKONFED, Mr. Mehmet Ceylan, Deputy Minister of Development, and Mr. Hayati Yazıcı, Minister of Customs and Trade.
Ms. Ümit Boyner’s speech focused on the new constitution. Boyner noted that a constitution reinforcing freedom, preventing oppression and fear can only be created by a discussion in an environment of freedom, without oppression or fear. On the ongoing preparative works of a new constitution, Ms. Boyner spoke as follows: “we have a very important opportunity and we cannot afford to miss it. This fact should be accepted by every stakeholder. We have an urgent call for a compromise, and at this point finding a middle point is crucial both for the ruling party and the main opposition party. I regard such a step extremely important, I want to express our support for any initiative to keep the process alive and I want to take this occasion to invite all the political parties to engage in a healthy, constructive and transparent debate.”
In her speech, Ms. Ümit Boyner touched upon the new Turkish Commercial Code. Ms. Boyner indicated that they followed every stage of the preparation of the new Turkish Commercial Code, and she believes that the new Code is a genuine reform about the transparency and accountability of the companies, and particularly about one of the most important problems of Turkey, the struggle against the unregistered economy.
The meeting included also a panel discussion on “Regional Economic Developments in Turkey”.
