The “These Young People Have the Potential” project realized within the scope of TÜSİAD’s 40th anniversary activities was announced to the public at a press conference on March 3rd, 2011, attended by TÜSİAD President Ümit Boyner, project Coordinator and TÜSİAD member Metin Akman together with representatives of the Project Preparation Group composed of Middle East Technical University (METU) and Bilkent University students.
In her speech at the project presentation meeting, Ümit Boyner explained that there needed to be close cooperation between the business world and universities in order to bring down youth unemployment rates. Indicating that this cooperation had been initiated with the project, Boyner continued “we want especially to draw attention to youth unemployment. The best medicine for employment is growth. Employment will correct itself as long as the Turkish economy continues to grow. In this context, cooperation between the business world and universities is very important”.
Aiming to draw attention to the youth unemployment that is one of the most pressing problems facing Turkey, the scope of TÜSİAD’s project is to develop cooperation with university student communities in the search for solutions to unemployment based on the entrepreneurial perspective of university students. In this scope, a project competition in which good business ideas will compete, entitled “Employment and Technology”, will first be arranged with the participation of student communities from METU and Bilkent Universities. Successful project participants will gain such possibilities as training and intern opportunities in the business world, vision visits and guidance services from TÜSİAD members. The project will continue in other cities and universities in future years.
