“Since its inception TÜSİAD deployed all its energy and resources to develop the rules and institutions of the market economy in order to further the democracy and the welfare of Turkey.

We have always been aware of our complementary function as a civil society organization and we made every effort to propose constructive solution to the problems of our country, in the spirit of promoting social coherence and reconciliation. We emphasized the importance of upholding our internal unity in a divided world, in the middle of active conflict zones.

The common line and the common sphere of cooperation we share with every political, governmental and civil institutions and organization of Turkey, is to make our country one of the developed nations with high democratic standards and an advanced market economy, in order to further the welfare and wellbeing of our citizens.

The level of welfare, the opportunities of employment and the global reputation which resulted from the economic success of Turkey created collaboratively have contributed considerably to the daily life of every Turkish citizen.

Any adverse attitude which may damage this positive outlook and may erode the reputation of Turkey should be avoided with utmost care.

On the other hand, the governance and auditing of institution according to the principles accountability and transparency is essential to secure the healthy development and sustainability of the market economy; and so is the independence of the agencies executing the public function of auditing.

As we are proposing for so long, objective tax auditing and the fight against informal economy require the establishment of an autonomous tax auditing structure in addition to the existing regulatory and supervisory agencies.

An environment where the confidence in the independence of regulatory and supervisory agencies is questionable will hurt the public conscience, the sense of justice and the principle of rule of law, and hence will damage the general atmosphere of peace and mutual trust.

The consequences of the public perception of the auditing activities as a form of punishment can be as perilous as if this perception is actually valid. The auditing activities should be executed in both the public and private sector transparently, impartially, constructively, and with due care to the credibility of the institutions; they should be concluded without creating doubts about their fairness. This is extremely important for the reputation of our country and for the value of our institutions.

In this context, we hope that all regulatory supervisory and auditing activities are designed and executed within the above mentioned universal market economy criteria, and we believe that the acceleration of the continuing structural reform efforts to develop our standards of market economy and rule of law will strengthen our economy and our democracy.”
