TÜSİAD Bosphorus Prize for European Understanding – 2010 will be awarded to Dr. Arend Oetker

“TÜSİAD Foreign Policy Award – Bosphorus Prize for European Understanding” for the year 2010 will be awarded to Dr. Arend OETKER, President of the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP), President of the Board of Directors of Arend Oetker Holding and Vice President of the Federation of German Industries (BDI). The ceremonial event will be realized within the framework with a dinner given by TÜSİAD, will be held at Esma Sultan Yalısı, Ortaköy in Istanbul on Thursday, November 4th.    

Mr. Cevdet YILMAZ, State Minister, as the guest of honor will make a speech at the ceremony. The opening speeches will be delivered by Mr. Mustafa V. KOÇ, Chiarman of the High Advisory Council of TÜSİAD and Ms. Ümit Boyner, President of the Board of Directors of TÜSİAD.

“TÜSİAD Bosphorus Prize for European Understanding” will be presented by Mr. Cevdet Yılmaz to Dr. Arend OETKER. The major factor to give this award to Dr. Oetker for his support the execution in a rational debate on Turkey’s EU full membership.

TÜSİAD set up the “TÜSİAD Foreign Policy Award – Bosphours Prize for European Understanding” award to recognize activities aiming to overcome the political, diplomatic, economic, social and cultural obstacles that Turkey encounters in the course of its integration into the EU, and to reward individuals or institutions believed to have contributed to the development of cooperation, mutual understanding and common values between Turkey and the EU. The individuals or institutions deemed worthy of the award by the Board of Directors of TÜSİAD need to be EU citizens, or a public or private institution of an EU member country.

* 2003 – Dr. Dietrich von KYAW, Former Ambassador of Germany to the European Union
* 2004 – Thierry de MONTBRIAL, President of the French Institute of International
Relations (IFRI)
* 2005 – Jack STRAW, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the United Kingdom
* 2006 – Günter VERHEUGEN, Vice President of the European Commission
* 2007 – Carl BILDT, Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs
* 2008 – Emma BONINO, Former Minister for International Trade of Italy and Vice President of
the Senate
* 2009 – Dr. Frank-Walter STEINMEIER, Chairman of the SPD Bundestag Group in the German Federal Parliament, Former Vice Chancellor and Minister for Foregin Affairs of  Germany
